Ogionsa

Ogionsa is a long-standing tradition in Kagoshima since the Edo period (17th century), and more than 3,000 people participate in this festival to bring prosperity and ward off plagues.

Portable shrines are paraded along the streets in Tenmonkan as the participants engage in auspicious chants to surrounding crowds and shops, to pray for good health, prosperity and fortune.
