October marks the start of sake brewing with newly harvested rice. The Chinese character for “酉” (tori) means “sake jar” and also represents the 10th sign of the Chinese zodiac. Traditionally, sake brewers in Japan have celebrated October 1st as the “New Year” for sake production.
On this day, numerous sake-related events are held throughout Japan. In Singapore, we began hosting the KANPAI event in 2014, and except for a three-year pause during the COVID-19 period, it has been held annually.
This event is not only about sake—it also supports introducing premium Japanese products such as food ingredients and ceramics to the world. It serves as a platform to connect people, products, and ideas across the globe.
